Narwhals are magical creatures that have captured the imaginations of humans for centuries. A bizarre ivory spear (actually a tooth) that extends from the whale’s face distinguishes this whale from other species seen in the Arctic.
Known as the “unicorn of the sea” these mythical whales are some of the most elusive on Earth. They travel through the ice-covered and spend much of their time in heavy ice but they are vulnerable to unique events called ice entrapments or ‘sassats’.
In this painting I wanted to talk about the relation ship between them and the Polar bears. Bears wait for the pass of the narwhals to kill them because their main pray, the ringed seals🦭, are dissapearing progressively from the ice pack due to the climate change. Both of them and the arctic tern ,also represented in the artwork, are migratory species that travel long distances without guides, only following the traditions of its ancient generations. Is it not magical?
