The goal of this mural was to capture the essence of the epic confrontation between two ocean titans, a showdown reminiscent of the scale of Godzilla and King Kong in their battle. However, beyond this visual representation, the mural also highlights the crisis affecting other local species, including African penguins.
The extinction of the great white shark in the coastal area of Cape Town is causing significant disruptions in the food chain. This species feeds on sea lions, who, in turn, feed on penguins. However, the decrease in the number of sharks is leading to an increase in the sea lion population. This imbalance is severely affecting the ecosystem, creating a new threat to African penguins, already classified as an endangered species.
