“Mediterraneus” is now a reality! Located in the neighborhood of El Cabanyal, in Valencia (Spain), this mural in collaboration with the Oceanogràfic Foundation seeks to raise awareness about the delicate situation of biodiversity in the Mediterranean Sea.

Through a spiral formed by more than 20 marine species, we represent their conservation status, from the most vulnerable to those in critical danger, which merge into the ocean and become part of it forever, thus reflecting the urgency of the conservation of our oceans. This is why it is a didactic work that, in addition to showing us part of the fauna and flora of our Mediterranean Sea, presents the five agents of global change: pollution, invasive species, overfishing, climate change, and habitat degradation.

In addition, the work, which is part of the “Art for Conservation” program of the “OceanFest”, also seeks to highlight and make visible the research work carried out by the Foundation and to bring science to all audiences, a field that often remains distant from the general public.

The inauguration was attended by representatives of the Valencia City Council, who highlighted the importance of initiatives that merge art and environmental awareness.
